Beginner's Guide To Being An F1 Fan

F1 Fans!
F1 Fans!

So you want to be a Formula One fan, huh? Well, you've come to the right place. I'm here to give you a beginner's guide to the most exciting, glamorous and expensive sport in the world. Here are some tips to help you get started:

1. Pick a team and a driver to support. This is very important, because you will need someone to cheer for, curse at and defend on social media. There are 10 teams and 20 drivers in Formula One, each with their own strengths, weaknesses and personalities. You can choose based on your nationality, your favorite color, your preferred engine manufacturer or just flip a coin. It doesn't really matter, as long as you stick with them through thick and thin.

2. Learn the rules and regulations. Formula One is not just about driving fast and turning left. There are a lot of technical and sporting rules that govern the sport, such as the qualifying format, the points system, the tire compounds, the safety car procedures and the penalties. You don't have to memorize them all, but you should have a basic understanding of how they work and why they exist. They can make or break a race, and sometimes even a championship.

3. Watch the races live. This is the best way to experience Formula One, as you get to see all the action unfold in real time. You can watch on TV, online or on your mobile device, depending on where you live and what service you have. You can also listen to the radio commentary or follow live timing and text updates on the official website or app. The races are usually held on Sundays, but sometimes on Saturdays or even Fridays, depending on the time zone. The season runs from March to December, with 23 races in 2021.

4. Follow the news and gossip. Formula One is not just about what happens on track, but also what happens off track. There are always rumors, controversies, scandals and drama in the paddock, involving the drivers, the teams, the sponsors, the media and the fans. You can keep up with all the latest news and gossip by following reputable sources online, such as websites, podcasts, blogs, YouTube channels and social media accounts (especially JERSEY SHORE MOTORSPORTS!). You can also join online communities and forums where you can interact with other fans and share your opinions.

5. MERCH! No F1 fan is complete without official gear from their favorite team. Be careful! There are lots of fake "licensed" F1 merch out there. Be sure to shop from only official sources. Overseas, the official F1 Store and Fuel For Fans are great. In the US, CMC Motorsports (cmcmotorsports.com) is the official retailer of licensed F1 merch in the US.

6. Enjoy the ride. Formula One is a roller coaster of emotions, with highs and lows, twists and turns, thrills and spills. You will experience joy and sorrow, excitement and boredom, hope and despair, love and hate. You will laugh and cry, cheer and boo, applaud and criticize. You will make friends and enemies, allies and rivals. You will be part of a global phenomenon that spans decades and continents. You will be a Formula One fan!
